Have your heard of Facebook Instant Articles?
Well, Facebook Instant Articles was just released on April 12, 2016 to publishers and since I already had the plugin sitting in my WordPress admin, it was time to set it up and find out what it was all about.
I figured I would give it a try for about a month to see if it will benefit my Facebook page and even my blog in anyway for the better. If it doesn’t and if it causes my numbers to drop, I will probably stop using it, we will see.
What is a Facebook Instant Article?
Is is a HTML5 document optimized for fast mobile performance, rich storytelling capabilities, branded design and customized visual display. Through their guide, you’ll learn how to create an Instant Article and use a standardized markup language (similar to XML) to make your stories come alive with custom styles and interactive functionality.
How To Setup Facebook Instant Articles With WordPress
The setup can be a little tricky, I was very confused at first but eventually it all started making sense. I am still leaning about the instant articles but since I have mine all set up in WordPress, I figured I would show you how to do it also.

1. Install Facebook Instant Articles Plugin
First you will need to install and activate the plugin in your WordPress admin, you can find the plugin here.
2. Sign up for Instant Articles
Once activated, you will need to go and sign up for Facebook Instant Articles.
3. Setting Up to Publish Instant Articles
You will need to follow the steps in the Instant Articles settings in your WordPress admin area, you will find it listed in the left hand column.
Here are a few things you will need to do, some are optional.
- Claim your URL
- Create style templates
- Format your articles
- Choose your publishing platform
- Connect your articles to your Facebook page
- Setup ads and analytics
- Setting up a Facebook page ID
4. Download the Facebook Pages Manager App
If you do not already have this app on your phone, You will need the this app to preview Instant Articles so that you can test and debug them.
5. Article Submission Checklist
Since there is so much that needs to be done when setting up Instant Articles, you might want to go through the checklist to make sure that you have everything setup.
6. Submit for Review
Once you have gone through all the steps and everything is setup, you will need to go and have it reviewed before you can start publishing.
You can access this within your Facebook page settings.
7. WordPress Settings
Once I did all of these steps, I noticed that it would not let me submit for review. I went searching to find out why and found that you need to adjust post settings in WordPress by changing them both to 50.
Once I adjusted them, I was able to go back into my Facebook page settings and submit for review.
Now we wait!
Instant Article reviews are usually completed within 24-48 hours.
