Have you ever thought about being or becoming fit after 40, I didn’t. It took having having back problems to open my eyes to even think about it.
When I was younger, I was always moving, walking and could even run if I needed too. I am pretty sure that most people over 40 were that way when they were younger.
I really wish someone had told me all of the things that I really should or shouldn’t be doing when I was younger because I would be paying for it when I got older.
Things like “be careful picking up heavy items or eat more vegetables and so on”.
The reasons are!

Back in 2001, my back went out and I could not walk for 2 days. I had no clue what was going on at the time. I didn’t go to ER, but once the pain was gone, I was back to normal and went back to doing the things I normally do.
In 2002, I was diagnosed with Congenital Spondylolisthesis. CS is a birth defect but often doesn’t have any symptoms until later in life, which is what happened to me in 2001.
I have had minor issues through out the years but never got treatment because I was fine for the most part.
May 2016, my back went out again (happened the same way as before) but the pain was different. I was scared and went to ER and then to see my PD. Turns out, this time it was a bulging disc and sciatica. Awful, Awful pain.
To make things worse, before it happened (and right after it happened) I had started developing lots of muscle and nerve pain through out my body. Knowing that it’s arthritis, just have no clue what kind, I will be finding that out very soon.
I have gone to Physical Therapy, which has helped a lot. I have been doing my stretches at home and now have started going to their gym, which is at the same clinic as my PT.
Feeling so much better after I do my exercises now and I am working on doing it 3 times a week. Below is a photo of my favorite machine to exercise on, not sure what its called though.
I am really working on getting more healthy and fit after 40 because I do not want to undergo surgery. It has not been mentioned yet by my doctor and I would like to keep it that way.
And to keep that from happening
I have to be very careful with the way I bend over, not pick any heavy items up and keep exercising to keep my muscles strong. I am OK with that.
Another thing is
I have started eating more healthy which is long over due. You know, when your younger, you will eat pretty much anything. Fast food, ice cream (my addiction), candy and so much more.
I have never been big on eating candy but it’s hard letting go of the other things.
I do most of my cooking at home and I now buy lot’s more fruit and vegetables, which I love anyway.
I have also purchased a NutriBullet to make daily smoothies. I have a recipe that I have grown to love that will help with chronic pain and it has helped mine.
Below you will find the recipe and I highly recommend giving it a try if you have chronic pain.
I found this recipe online earlier this year and it’s just one of many out there that has worked well for me.
My Favorite Smoothie for Arthritis Pain
- 1 c. Almond Milk
- 1 tsp. Turmeric (root or ground)
- 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Ginger (root or powder)
- 1 Banana
- 1 c. Pineapple (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 1 Carrot (chopped)
- 1 handful Hemp Seeds (Optional)
Just put all of these ingredients into your blender and blend for about 10-20 seconds (or longer if needed).

If you are reading this and are younger than 40, please stay active and eat healthy, because if you don’t, you just might regret it when you hit the midlife years.
Now if you are over 40, get fit and eat healthy, if you haven’t already started. Most people I know or have talked to already have, but if you have not, please start now.
The reason I am stressing this so much is because, most of the foods out there are so unhealthy and contain so many bad things that can make you sick, it has happened to me.
Also, go to the gym and work out, get with a trainer if you want or even get out and start walking in the park, just do something because if you don’t, your body is going to start slowing down and have issues and it’s not fun.
