Materials Needed – DIY Valentines Day Splatter Screen Door Hanger
- Splatter Screen with long handle
- Red and White Spray Paint
- Jute Cord
- Ribbon for Bow
- Heart Chalkboard Tags
- Black Matte Acrylic Paint (if you want to paint the screen edges)
- Hot Glue
- Heart Printable
I got everything listed above at the Dollar Tree except spray paint and ribbon (which I already had on hand).

Instructions – DIY Valentines Day Splatter Screen Door Hanger
- The first thing you are going to want to do is search online for a heart printable (that fills the page) and print it out.
- Cute out the center of the heart from the printable.
- Take your splatter screen and spray paint it white, both sides (letting it dry in between spraying).
- Once all is dry…
- Spray paint the handle red (if desired) or leave white. Let dry.
- Lay the outer edges of the paper heart over the splatter screen. Make sure to cover the splatter screen outside the heart area with something to keep it from being sprayed red.
You can get the idea from the photo below.

Here is what it looks like after all the spray painting in the photo below.
- I then, hand painted the edges of the splatter screen with black acrylic paint, then let dry.
Tip: as you can tell from the photo, I had some paint splatter that filled the holes at the bottom of the spatter screen. After letting it dry, take a toothpick and just barley poke it through the holes to remove the extra paint.

Now it’s time to add in the little extra fun stuff to make it come together.
- Cut off a long piece of jute cord and hot glue it around the edges of your heart.
- Hot glue one of the Chalkboard Heart tags to the center of the splatter screen.
- Create a bow and then hot glue it to the bottom area of the splatter screen handle and touch up the bow to make it look the way you want.
If you are interested in creating the same type of bow that I made, I got the idea from the lady over at Re-fabbed, I just love her bows.

The photo above and the ones below, I took them in front of different backgrounds so that you can see how the heart shows up darker or lighter.
I did (when spraying the heart) spray painted that area twice between drying to make it darker.

Here is a close up of the heart below. I forgot to mention, you can add some jute cord and tie it in a knot on the Chalkboard heart tag before gluing it on to give it that extra touch.
Tip: Make sure when hot gluing your crafts, use finger protectors. I finally started using them with this diy and didn’t burn myself at all. I actually got mine at Dollar Tree, check your local store.
Tip: You can write anything on the Chalkboard heart tag if you like. I just left it blank for now.

I really hope you have enjoyed this DIY Valentines Day Splatter Screen Door Hanger. This was was lot’s of fun to make.
