When I saw this snowman craft from another blogger, I ran to my nearest Dollar Tree and bought all of the Splatter Screens that they had in stock, I bet they thought I was crazy ha!

The snowflake is felt stickers in a package of 12.

Instructions - Splatter Screen Snowman

  • I took two of the splatter screens and bent the handles to secure them to the boards. I used glue but you can actually screw them in to be more secure.
  • Attached all of the splatter screens together with floral wire but make sure to put the handle facing down for the one on top. This way the top splatter screen is not bending backwards because of the weight.

  • Once everything is attached and secure, I spray painted it twice (letting it dry before applying second coat).

  • Once the paint is dry, I hot glued the buttons and burlap nose on. I took the foam board and cute 2 pieces to look like the hat.

The reason for 2 pieces was because I wanted the splatter screen to go in between the foam board at the bottom.

I hot glued the top part of the foam boards together but not the bottom below the red trim.

I just guessed at the size of the hat when I was making but it worked out great.

The actual measurements are 9.25" wide at base, 6" wide top part and 8" height (from top to bottom).

  • I then cut up my red sweater to make a scarf and the trim (attached with hot glue) for his hat.

What to Pack If Making This During a Trip

If you want to make this snowman craft during a cabin weekend, vacation rental stay, or holiday family gathering, pack the supplies together before you leave:

  • Three splatter screens
  • White spray paint
  • Foam board
  • Buttons
  • Burlap or orange fabric for the nose
  • Snowflake decoration
  • Wood block or base
  • Fabric, ribbon, or old sweater for scarf and hat trim
  • Floral wire
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Disposable table covering
  • Paper towels

I would spray paint the splatter screens before the trip so your cabin weekend does not smell like “holiday cheer with chemical undertones.

Safety Tip

Adults should handle the spray paint, floral wire, hot glue, bending splatter screen handles, and cutting foam board. Spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, and let everything dry fully before decorating or displaying the snowman. If kids are helping, let them choose buttons, fabric, scarf pieces, or decorations after glue has cooled.

  8. Are all 3 splatter screens the same size?

    1. Yes, these only come in one size. All 3 of these are the ones with the long handle.

I will be trying these snowman this week. I don’t have a cardboard box , but I do have a empty plastic storage
Bin. I was thinking of putting a command strip in the inside of the bin to hold the splatter screen in place with a wire. As it dangles inside the bin I was going to spray it white..

My question is if I am going to spray 10 screens what is the easiest place to hang them to dry?

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks for stopping by. What I did was had mine out on an old table in the back and spray painted one side, let dry and flipped it over and painted the other side.

      1. What size wood did you use?
I didn’t see it written anywhere.

        1. Because it really doesn't matter. Just as long has it a solid piece of wood sturdy enough to hold it down and wide enough to glue both handles to it. I hope that helps 🙂

  10. How do you bend handles

    1. The handles bend very easily, just bend them slowly 🙂

  11. How do you bend handles? They are tough!

    1. I just bend them slowly, I had no issues. Hope you get them bent soon 🙂
